Planting the perennials
You can plant the spring flowering bulbs until the soil and ground become frozen. Then prepare your tender and tenacious perennials for the season changes. You should remember that during the middle climates the plants and bulbs can be still divided and transplanted. You can plant hardy bulbs just before the freezing of soil but you should plants then early as the root system can grow well during the winter. You can aerate the lawns during late autumn so that the grass can easily recover. If you plant to core aerate them make sure that your cores are three inches deep and should spread to about six inches. If you feel that your lawn needs winter or fall fertilizer then you can get the same from your local plant nursery. Although thatching in not required the garden would surely love fertilizers being used as the roots will gain strength to grown during the winter season. A good garden and lawn would usually use heavy duty molded plastic in order to shape neat edges of the beds. You can find these in rolls or flat that are six inch tall to do the edging. This will save your time of removing weeds and grass which otherwise creep into the beds.
Watering yoru garden and lawn
You should however not forget about watering your garden during the middle of autumn. Although the summer season is over, proper moisture is the most important your plants need to survive during the cold winder months. There are two ways you can water the plants during autumn. One is you can provide the established plants just an inch of water every week either through irrigation or rain. The other way would be your personal observation and deciding upon how much water the plants need. As you might be familiar that over watering would lead to big problems the same would apply to under watering. You amount of watering would depend on your country weather and the rate of evaporation. There is also other factor which is transpiration that should be taken note of while watering the plants.
